In November 2002, the company Megrad d.o.o. begun contract works on the construction of the City Sports Hall in Gospić, according to the design made by the company Arhingtrade d.o.o. from Zagreb. The total gross surface area of the building was 6,700 m2, and the planned capacity of the gymnasium was 5,500 spectators. During 1998, the company Megrad d.o.o. completed all excavation work, replaced embankment layers, and constructed the foundations of the building.
At the end of 1998, the Investor suspended all construction work on the site due to a shortage of funds. Therefore, the Investor issued an order to the architects to design a new, reduced project for the sports hall and concluded a new building contract with Megrad d.o.o. In September 1999, the construction work on the completion of the sports hall began. According to the new project the gross developed surface is 4,200 m2 and the capacity of the hall is 900 spectators, including telescopic stands. The hall with all its elements meets the conditions for organizing international sports competitions.
